"What the great Murnaghan refers to as the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 2006, was in fact a two pronged attack on Israel, featuring the Iranian sponsored proxy terror army Hamas entering Israel from Gaza and murdering and kidnapping soldiers, while the Iranian sponsored proxy terror army known as Hezbollah entered Israel from Lebanon, murdering and kidnapping more Israeli soldiers before fleeing back to Lebanon pursued by the Israeli army. It's not really an Israeli invasion in that context, is it Dermo? In all fairness. What happened in 2006 was just another cowardly Arab sneak attack on a democratic western nation. Irony of ironies. You can see this week how upsetting it is for Arab terrorists when they get taken by surprise. Yet they've been full of suprises themselves for the past fifty years. Go back to the Eggheads Murnaghan. Like Arab terror you're past your sell by date."

I'm not sure exactly when this fascination with celebrety started. It's as though these people, by virtue of their popularity, have something to say to which we should all bend our collective ear.
Odd too - Annie Lennox was married to an Israeli and has two children with him. I never liked her or her music.
Can't wait for Madonna and Britney Spears to weigh in on the conflict. Perhaps Obambi can ask for their opinions. At the very least he should consult with Sean Penn and Bono. Can you say mental midget??
I do like Annie Lennox, however I'm not sure that qualifies her to make public pronouncements about Israel.
I love the name Obambi. I shall now co-opt that, calling him Osama bin Barack (as I do) is well beyond its sell-by date.
I simply do not get, and bear in mind that thee and I are pretty wildly apart on Politics Jim-Bob, why it is the thing to blame the Israelis. WHY? Hamas are a terrorist organisation in government, and an organisation whose stated mission statement if you like, is to get rid of Israel. They ignored the negotiated ceasefire of the past six months and when Israel is driven to return some part of the compliment on their sacred day, ie, that's how bad it got for them, somehow it's STILL their fault.

Hey Ade. I've been reading Saint James. Not me. The real one. He has a line where he refers to Michael the warrior angel in debate with Satan, and refusing to use pejorative language. This strikes most nearly upon my heart. I have a weakness for the telling phrase. Er, I mean the cheap shot. I'm always trying to say something sensational. If you take the pejoratives out of my writing, there's not much left. But I've been thinking about Saint James and toying with the notion of striking out towards civility in the discourse! But, if I do, how on earth will I address myself to the traitors, Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky, Robert Fisk et al, Particularly Al. I hate him.

Here in Michigan, les than 1,000 people gathered in Dearborn to protest the Israeli attacks. Most of them weren't of Palistinian descent, since they are a small group. But the big deal was a letter from a number of Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders to call for a ceasefire and negotiations.
What irritated me were people like the Jewish woman who said she didn't agree with Hamas sending rockets into Israel, but "people need to understand the other side's story or this will never end. It will just go on and on and on."
It sounds so true and right - except that Hamas's charter calls for Israel's destruction. And Israel perfectly understands "the other side's story."
Ah... cut myself off. I wanted to say that these "community leaders" often operate like celebrities. Here Jews, Christians, and Muslims work together and live peacefully. So the people involved in the interfaith councils and such think that solutions that work here should easily work in the Middle East.
But if you talk to the Chaldeans who immigrated around the '40s or the Persian (Iranian) immigrants after the Shah's overthrow - they'll tell you the "melting pot" environment is alien to their culture. And peaceful co-existance works until one group gets the upperhand over another group that was their traditional annihilation target.
MissJ, I appreciated hearing you say that the interfaith councils actually work in places. It's an optimistic note on a dark enough day. I spent the afternoon in a cafe in Dublin pondering the possibility of going outside to shout at the protestors: "No more Arab terror," and "No more Al Qaedas." I didn't do it. Hence I'm still here!
