the state we are in
In a neighbour's house watching the evening news on the broadcaster RTE.
The main report is about an American woman living in Killarney who has been murdered.
Her name is Jamey Carney and she was 42 years old.
The photos shown on the news reveal her to be beautiful.
RTE are too delicate to inform us that her body was found by her 13 year old daughter.
The reporter also glosses over the violence of her death and merely notes that police are searching for a person of interest.
A source is quoted as saying that the police are not releasing the suspect's name or photograph at the present time as the case is still under investigation.
That's rum.
Not releasing the name or photograph of a man who has just violently murdered a woman and is on the run...
"If RTE aren't telling us anything about him and the police are withholding his identity. he must be a foreign national, an asylum seeker or a Palestinian," I murmur.
Later I find from a report on the webpage of Great Britain News that he is an asylum seeker from the Middle East.
This evening I find on the New York Post website that his name is Ahmad Alsaqer, that he met Jamey Carney at a pro Palestinian demonstration, and that the room at her residence in which he murdered her was drenched in her blood.
Among photos she had posted on the internet in recent months celebrating their relationship, was a picture of herself with him captioned: "Dating an Arab be like..."
And this is the man the Irish police did not immediately identify to the public on Tuesday when he beat her to death and went on the run.
Today the Irish police force announced that the suspect has left the country.
