strange visitors

come with me
to the darkest most beautiful night
that the world has ever seen
and ever might
we can sit on the straw
we'll get warm from it
and watch the stillness draw
a cloak of peace
through a time of war
lambs are calling in the fields
that this night is forever
and forever yields
to this night
we are there
caught in the warmth
from things that are old
and things that are rare
look look my friend
gold
frankincense
and myrhh

Dear Mr. Healy,

When can I expect to read something new on your blog? One of my colleagues told me that he thought he saw you and the mammy at a recent poetry convention in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Yet another colleague swears she saw the two of you in Thompson, Manitoba at some Border Collie agility trials. Not to be outdone, a third claims to have seen you both at the local Yum Yums in Foam Lake, Sask quaffin down coffees. I thought I'd never see the day where you'd vacation in Western Canada! It's beautiful though, isn't it?

Did you hear of the recent UFO sighting in the U.S? I believe it was a couple of pilots who swear they saw it. Yours truly missed the news report so I'm a little foggy on the details. Something tells me it was spotted in the sky over the mid west.

Here's hoping you have a relatively pain-free year. Also, keep up the good work with the poetry, photography and blog.

All the best,

Sir Anonymous

Relatively pain free is as good as it gets!
Arf, arf.
All reported sightings of me and the Mammy are, like UFO sightings, absolutely genuine.
Also like with UFO sightings, people are normally drunk when they see us.
Arf, arf, again.

Saskatchewan and Manitoba - Western Canada?!? Good Lord, that's practically the middle. We do have a real west Sir Anonymous! As in so far west that if you go any wester, you fall off.
Plus - who would come to Canada and not go to Tim Horton's for coffee? Hmmm? No, no, no, *shakes head* your story doesn't hang together ;)

I would like to make it perfectly clear that it was not yours truly who thought he saw Mr. Healy and his mammy at those various provinces across Canada, rather it was colleagues of mine.

As for my references to Western Canada...I have followed Major Junior Hockey in Canada for years and Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan all fall under that western category.

Former Bruin great Keith Crowder runs a Tim Horton's in I believe Essex or Windsor Ontario and I am quite familiar with the Horton chain. Once again, I am merely just going with the information my sources gave me. It is up to you wether you choose to believe it or not. Like my late Uncle Ken used to say, " You can please some people some of the time, but you're an awful thick ejit if you think you can please all your critics." :) Smile!

Well I must concede that the bizarrely named Eastern division of the WHL does indeed contain teams from those Provinces.
On t'other hand, I have watched the weather channel and seen the beautiful province of BC blanked out as though nothing existed west of Alberta.
I also live close enough to the US border to to get American news channels and you might be forgiven for thinking that the US was an amazing geological formation with a naturally straight edge, above which hovered some amorphous grey mass.
I'd be hoping that should the Irish Poet (greatest, living) be setting foot anywhere in the Province of BC, that he and the Lildebeest would be looking to quaff coffee or other sustenance at Schloss Schnee. Just...in case the colleagues may be in semaphore contact you understand ;)

The poem, Jim, the poem. It is full of that indefinable quality we call mere genius.
