a short monograph on comparative sentencing in the contemporary irish courts system

(1) Judge Martin Nolan this week refused to impose a custodial sentence on a man who had attempted to murder a cyclist by ramming him with a car. Judge Martin Nolan apparently thinks cyclists, and the Judaeo Christian cultural taboo on murder, are overrated.

(2) In May 2012, for the crime of mislabelling garlic as apples, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced a fruit importer to six and a half years in jail.
