the majesty of democracy
Wandered into the polling booth.
Some badinage with a passing brigadier general and a retired police sergeant and a brace of school teachers.
That's my broth of a boy public image routine.
Just to let em see I can still pass myself with the commoners.
(One of mine - George Constanza note)
(Homage - Heelers note)
Presently I stand in the little wooden alcove which provides a modicum of privacy for voting. I have a pencil in my hand and am contemplating the voting sheet.
Ten candidates to choose from.
Won't be voting Fine Gael because they're abortionists.
Won't be voting Fianna Fail because they're abortionist kleptocrats.
Won't be voting Sinn Fein because I disapprove of their pulling out businessman Kevin Lunney's fingernails policy. And they're also abortionists.
The Irish electoral system requires you to write a number "1" beside your first preference candidate, a "2" beside your next choice, a "3" for your third favourite, and so on down the line.
You can give every candidate standing in your consituency a numerical rating in sequence if you wish.
Or you can just pick a few.
Or just one.
There were ten candidates to choose from in Kildare South where I live.
Anita Mhic Gib is a bit socialisty but she is a defender of the sanctity of life so I gave her a number 1.
I didn't add any other preferences.
