tempest tossed

midnight comes

winter takes the world

long a lover of storms

in the tumult and the downpour

i walk forth

 

sadness has held too much of me

i would dismiss it if i could

still it holds

heart and soul and blood

in a vice of grief a grip of misery

yet there is hope

for even in hopelessness i know this

that Christ is lord of time as well of space

his victory whatever age it holds

will hold all ages

and darkness will fall

to the nothingness it is

 

darkness has closed in

as many times before it closed

but it shall not win
