on first looking into groening's homer

much have i travelled in televion's realms
and many salacious plot twists and incitements to violence have i seen
round many reruns of star trek have i been
which nerds in fealty to gene roddenberry hold
but never did i breathe the pure serene
until matt groening began merchandising the simpsons loud and bold

then felt i like some watcher of the playboy channel
when a new piece of infantile titillation swims into his ken
or like stout eastwood when with eagle eyes
he looked at a street punk with a wild surmise
and shot him over and over again

noirin o'sullivan apology and retraction

In writings on police corruption in Ireland I at one stage endorsed claims about supposed mistreatment of Garda Keith Harrison at the hands of his colleagues and superiors.
I am not able to stand over my analysis of Keith Harrison's claims.
I wish to apologise to former Police Chief Noirin O'Sullivan for what I wrote about her in this regard.
I was wrong.

(Footnote: This apology in no way relates to my true and justified comments on claims by a genuinely heroic police officer Maurice McCabe regarding corruption in the Irish Police Force and Noirin O'Sullivan's possible collusion in framing him as described in my article of 17th September 2017.)

the attacks on george hook

Veteran controversialist George Hook has been suspended from his radio programme for making the following comments regarding a court case in England.

Mr Hook said:
"But when you look deeper into the story, you have to ask certain questions. Why does a girl who just  met a fellow in a bar go back to his hotel room? She's only just barely met him. She has no idea of his health conditions. She has no idea who he is. No idea what dangers he might pose. But is there no blame to the person who puts themselves in danger? You then of course read that she passed out on the toilet and when she woke up, the guy was trying to rape her. There is personal responsibility because it's your daughter and it's my daughter."

The broadcaster has been suspended from the radio station following a series of protests from media groups, self styled activists, and no less a person than the Prime Minister of Ireland, all of whom wrongly claimed his statement imputed guilt to rape victims.
The Tesco supermarket chain has withdrawn its advertising from the show.

George Hook's crime?
He told the truth.
He stated the bleeding obvious in an age whose pseudo elites prefer politically correct platitudes.

The Irish Times styles itself a paper of record. Yet it has been curiously lacking in objectivity, vindictive even, and manifestly unfair, in its representation of the sequence of events. While stoking the fires of vilification directed against Mr Hook, the paper of record has been crassly economical with the truth, referring to his comments as though they are unprintable, and publishing only one sentence of what he actually said, and that completely out of context, and in a manner calculated to impute maximum guilt. The sentence the Irish Times quoted was: "But is there no blame to the person who puts themselves in danger?"

Here is the news.

George Hook couched his comments with a direct reference to any father's duty of protection towards his daughter.
He was saying that the safety of any woman is as important to him as that of his own daughter.
This was his reason for speaking out.
In all seriousness gentle readers, I have to ask you: Do we not have a duty as citizens to hold the Irish Times and indeed Tesco, and our Prime Minister, accountable for their showboating misrepresentation of this man's honorable and courageous advocacy?
George Hook specifically stated that women who are raped might be his daughter or anybody's daughter, and his point was clearly that there is a duty for any parent, for any citizen who cares, to advise their daughters, to advise any woman as though she were our own daughter, not to do stupid things like going to hotels with people they've just met.
I would add that in Ireland the advice holds good for men as well as women. At least two men that we know about were tortured and murdered in recent years by a woman devil worshipper who picked them up off the streets. The story received negligible reporting initially and since the murderess was jailed, her activities and the issues they raise, have been strangely absent from the pages of the Irish Times.

Sometimes it seems Irish Times editorial staff and contributors are much more at ease attempting to ruin the reputation and career of a decent, brave, insightful old man who has recently declared a conversion to Christianity than they are in speaking out about the murder gangs and death cults that flourish in our midst, preying on the unwary in an age of debauchery.

I wonder why.

from the heelers emails

Ernest Hebblethwack to James Healy.
Yesterday's article about the Revenue Commissioners is the most boring thing you've ever written.

Heelers to Ernest.
No! No by heaven. I'm not  having that... I wrote a business column once for the Leinster Leader that was much worse than what you read yesterday. cf The Major in Fawlty.

attention leo varadkar prime minister republic of ireland

(eyes only)

1. Offices of the Revenue Commissioners, the official government taxing authority in Ireland, are being decentralised to various locations in Dublin and around the country.

2. These offices are repositories for files on citzens and commercial organisations. The files contain sensitive data.

3. I am concerned that while Revenue Commissioners offices are being decentralised, a de facto increase in the concentration of power is taking place behind closed doors. That is to say more and more power in the form of data on citizens is being marshalled by the various staffs  in the various offices with oversight that may not be sufficient to prevent abuses.

4. I would suggest Prime Minister that those employed in the Revenue Commissioners may not always use the powers they are accumulating and which you are allowing them to accumulate, wisely.

5. Revenue Commissioners offices, containing as they do information on citizens and commercial entities, are targets for infiltration by gangland and terrorist organisations such as the IRA, Al Qaeda, Cosa Nostra, the Chinese Triads et al.

6. The decentralisation of Revenue Commissioners offices may result in an attrition of security protocols and an increasing risk of security breaches with regard to data being kept on the citizenry.

7. The Revenue Commissioners offices in Tallaght are located in a shared building that includes a hotel, a casino, a fast food takeaway, and other commercial outlets.

8. A carpark serving the hotel and the other tenants is located around the building.

9/ The location of a public carpark serving a hotel and a casino, beside Revenue Commissioners offices means that gangland operatives have an excuse to be in proximity to Revenue Commissioners offices which they may want to keep under surveillance.

10. The presence of a public carpark at the site also gives opportunities for gangland operatives or other personae non gratae to observe staff with a view to corrupting same.

11. A police station is also using the underground carpark at this location.

12. There is a public interest in preventing undue access by the police to civil servants holding personal data on the citizenry.

13. The sharing of an internal carpark with the police might in theory allow improper contact between the police and Revenue Commissioners personnel.

14. The sharing of a building with any other entity, such as a casino or a hotel, might in theory provide a modus for further security breaches.

15. My recommendations Prime Minister are as follows.

16. All Revenue Commissioners offices, including decentralised ones, should be in stand alone buildings with a controlled carpark, uniquely preserved for Revenue Commissioners use. There should be no possibility of gangland spectators using the carpark. There should be professional security in place at the gate.

17. Revenue Commissioners offices should never be shared with other tenants, whether commercial businesses or State Sector entities such as the police.

18. The perimetre of Revenue Commissioners offices should give no sight lines for potential malefactors to scout personnel or the location itself.

moodpiece

Autumnal rains sweeping through the heartland.
Blackberries glistening on the branches.
Hedgerows resplendently girding the ancient fields.
An evening glow in the windows of many houses.
School children wending their way home through the streets of our town.
A gospel shiver in the trees.
The wind itself is whispering psalms.
All creation rejoices in wondrous disparate harmonies together: "God, God, God."

This is the story of the hurricane
Noirin O'Sullivan was her name
She was assistant to the chief
Of a crime gang called the Irish police

Her corrupt boss was Joe Callanan
A cunning conniving mafioso rapscallion
He wanted to keep his corruption out of the news
So he and Noirin framed a hero cop for child abu-u-u-use

This is the story of the hurricane
A thief, a rogue and a renegade
For her duplicity in every way
She made our country pay
But one time
Oh one time
She could have been the champion of the world

Big bad Joe he got the can
The government needed another man
They promised not to hire an insider
But Noirin knew that didn't apply to her

A liberal atheist prime minister called her in
He said: 'Breaking promises is not a sin
Since you're a woman I want you to be chief for me"
And the all liberal parliament agre-e-e-eed
